Paper Lantern Waltz

[Verse 1] Today I wore my old gray coat And let the rain mark the hem A baker laughed at my careful step Near the glass of the tramway bend Your name sat light on my tongue Like a coin in a wool coat seam I watched two swans turn slow in the canal And I almost chased that dream [Pre-Chorus] Oh, the hour turned soft On a red café chair My heart kept time With the fold in the air [Chorus] Dance me slow Dance me slow Hold me close Then let me go Dance me slow Dance me slow Tonight I’m whole In the pull of your glow [Verse 2] A woman sold pears in the square With a scarf tied under her chin I bought one just to feel the weight Of something sweet in my hand again The dogs shook off their shining coats The bells leaned out from Saint-Sulpice And every dark little puddle Looked like it knew your kiss [Pre-Chorus] Oh, the hour turned soft On a red café chair My heart kept time With the fold in the air [Chorus] Dance me slow Dance me slow Hold me close Then let me go Dance me slow Dance me slow Tonight I’m whole In the pull of your glow [Bridge] If I am wild, it is quiet wild A match in a glass of wine If I am lost, let the river take The weight of my borrowed time One more turn One more spin Let the ache Let the joy move in [Chorus] Dance me slow Dance me slow Hold me close Then let me go Dance me slow Dance me slow Tonight I’m whole In the pull of your glow
